Kyle Ward will begin his seventh season on the Bulldog coaching staff in 2025. UNC Asheville Head Baseball Coach Scott Friedholm announced on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 the hiring of Ward, to serve as the pitching coach for the Bulldogs.

"We are excited to have Kyle join our staff. Coming from St. Thomas Aquinas where it played in a DII Regional and College World Series, he has had great success with the pitching staff there," said Friedholm. "Also with a background from Charleston Southern, he knows the area really well, so that will be a big plus for us recruiting as well as knowing the competition in the Big South."

Ward comes to UNC Asheville after two years as the pitching coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y. During his time at STAC, Ward led the pitching staff, which complied an 83-32 record while under his belt. During his time, STAC won two Regular Season East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships, one ECC Tournament Championship, one East Region Championship and appeared in one DII College World Series. During his tenure, the Spartan pitching staff was ranked nationally in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts per nine innings and batting average against.

"When Coach Friedholm gave me the opportunity to be a part of the program here I knew that it was the right choice to come," said newly-appointed pitching coach Ward. "I am very fortunate to be able to be a member of a program that has a head coach with great background in pitching knowledge. I am excited to work with a great group of young men who are hungry and want to work hard on a daily basis."

Prior to STAC, Ward coached for two seasons at Florence-Darlington Technical College in Florence, S.C. At Florence-Darlington Tech, Ward's pitching staff compiled a 65-42 record, and again he had pitching staffs ranked nationally in multiple categories. Under his leadership, numerous players moved on to schools in the Southeastern Conference, Big South, Southern Conference, Peach Belt, Conference USA and Colonial Athletic Association. Two of Ward's 2015 pitchers moved on and continued to have success at a higher level and were eventually drafted by the MLB - Nick Jobst (2016 draft, 15th round) and David Parkinson (2017 draft, 10th round).

In the summer of 2015, Ward began a two-year stint in the Valley Baseball League, a collegiate summer baseball league. He started as the pitching coach for the Aldie Senators, and then in 2016, he became the manager for the Woodstock River Bandits, which made him the youngest manager in the league that summer.

A four-year letter winner at Charleston Southern, Ward played under Stuart Lake. While there, Ward earned a B.A. in communications and minored in business administration. Ward was born and raised in Georgetown, S.C.
