Thomas Gertsch will begin his second season as an assistant coach for the UNC Asheville swimming and diving program in 2020-21. UNC Asheville Head Swimming & Diving Coach Elizabeth Lykins announced the addition of Gertsch to her coaching staff on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Gertsch serves as the assistant coach of diving for the program.
"We are excited to welcome Thomas to the Bulldog swimming and diving family," Lykins said. "He is a detail-oriented teacher of the sport and uses a variety of techniques and approaches to enhance the skills of his students. I am so excited to have Thomas' assistance in growing our new diving program to become more competitive for dual meets and within the conference, CCSA."Â
Gertsch currently serves as a Springboard Diving Coach at the Jewish Community Center of Asheville. He has served in that position since 2018.
He has also worked as a Gymnastics Coach at Asheville Gymnastics since 2016.
"I would like to thank the UNC Asheville athletic department and Elizabeth Lykins for having the foresight to develop this diving program," Gertsch said. "I look forward to growing this team into the best we can be at UNC Asheville."
Prior to his time in Asheville, Gertsch was an Outdoor Educator at the YMCA Camp Greenville in Cleveland, S.C.
He has 15+ years of direct experience instructing youth and adults in academic, athletic and creative endeavors.
Gertsch is a Level 1 USA Diving Certified Coach Â
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences from The Ohio State University and an Associates of Science from Sinclair College.Â
