Dani Nicosia has been hired as UNC Asheville’s new Assistant Athletic Director for Digital and Creative Branding, announced Tuesday, Aug. 15 by Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone and Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Aaron Bessey.
“I could not be more thrilled to have Dani joining the Bulldog family,” said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. “Her skill set in this new position will instantly elevate the way we can showcase our incredible student-athletes to our alumni, donors, and the community.”
"I am extremely excited to join the team at UNC Asheville,” said Nicosia. “I am looking forward to sharing the stories of our inspiring student-athletes on and off the field, while continuing to grow the Bulldog brand. A big thank you to Janet Cone and Aaron Bessey for bringing me on and trusting my vision for this area."
Nicosia comes to Asheville after two-plus years at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where she also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Digital and Creative Media. At LR, she oversaw the athletic department’s digital brand, digital content and social media. During her time in Hickory, Nicosia was able to help the Bears’ social media following grow 125% in three years and video content viewership, including live broadcasts, grow 100% in three years.
"Dani will be an unbelievable asset to our external team here at UNC Asheville," added Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Aaron Bessey. "I have had the privilege of knowing Dani for years and she is second to none when it comes to creating engaging digital content. I know she will hit the ground running and make an immediate and lasting impact on our Bulldog student-athletes.”
Prior to her time at Lenoir-Rhyne, she was the Communications Coordinator at Charlotte Country Day School, overseeing all communication plans and digital media. Nicosia got her start in athletics at her alma mater, Queens University of Charlotte, first as a marketing intern and then a graduate assistant in athletic marketing. While in undergrad at Queens, she was a Division II women’s soccer student-athlete.
She earned her master’s degree in communication from Queens in 2019, and her bachelor’s of science in sport management from Queens in 2017.
