07.08.2026 | Men's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Men's Basketball Head Coach Mike Morrell has announced the addition of Jamison McIver to the Bulldogs' coaching staff while promoting Jonathan Steelman to General Manager/Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.
McIver joins the Bulldogs after spending the last 14 seasons at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, including the last eight as head coach. During his tenure, he compiled a 163-70 overall record, leading the Cobras to multiple NJCAA Region 10 championships, an Atlantic District Championship, a national tournament appearance and numerous national rankings. McIver coached 2026 UNC Asheville men's basketball graduate Toyaz Solomon for two seasons before Solomon came to Asheville. Under McIver's tutelage, Solomon was named Region 10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and was named the Region 10 Newcomer of the Year in 2022.
McIver was named Region 10 Coach of the Year in 2022, 2023 and 2024 while consistently developing all-conference, all-region and All-America talent. His teams routinely ranked among the nation's leaders in scoring, rebounding and three-point shooting despite competing without athletic scholarships, on-campus housing or meal plans.
Prior to becoming Caldwell's head coach, McIver served as an assistant coach at Caldwell from 2012-18 after assistant coaching stops at Lenoir-Rhyne and Brevard.
A Granite Falls, North Carolina native, McIver graduated from Mars Hill College with a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Sports Management after a four-year playing career with the Lions, where he served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons.
Steelman enters his third season with the Bulldogs after being promoted to General Manager/Assistant Coach following two seasons as the program's Video Coordinator.
Before arriving at UNC Asheville, Steelman spent one season as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas. He played collegiately at Wofford College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance. A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Steelman joined the Bulldogs prior to the 2024-25 season and has been an integral member of the coaching staff ever since.
