CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville redshirt senior Cooper Smith has been named the Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league today (Monday, May 4).

Smith fired a complete game shutout in Asheville's 9-0 win over Winthrop on Sunday (May 3), for his third complete game effort of the season. It marks the first complete game shutout for a Bulldog since Ryan Dull blanked Saint Peter's in a 3-0 win back on Feb. 25, 2012. Smith fired 130 pitches with 83 strikes in the effort, scattering just five hits with a career-high nine punchouts and two walks.

This is Smith's first career Starting Pitcher of the Week honor. The Tallahassee, Fla. native is a business major.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow (Tuesday, May 5) at Western Carolina in the latest installment of the Mountain Rivalry. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. from Cullowhee, N.C. with video, live stats and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com.  Â
