02.07.2026 | Women's Basketball

FARMVILLE, Va. - Freshman Jamaria Freeman's first career double-double was not enough for UNC Asheville Women's Basketball in a 72-60 loss at Longwood on Saturday (Feb. 7).

Asheville held Longwood to just nine points in the first quarter, while scoring 10 points in the frame to take a lead to the second quarter. Longwood outscored Asheville 27-16 in the second quarter to take a 36-26 lead to the half.

Asheville would respond by scoring 19 points in the third quarter while holding Longwood to just 14 points in the frame to cut the deficit in half. The teams would trade scores in the opening minutes of the third quarter, before back-to-back three-pointers from Journee McDaniel and a score from Nia Green cut the deficit to just four to force a timeout less than three minutes into the period. Longwood's lead would fluctuate into the final minutes of the quarter, before Asheville would get within as few as three before Longwood would take a 50-45 lead to the fourth.

Longwood would outscore Asheville 22-15 in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score.

Asheville shot 33.8 percent (22-65) from the floor, just 26.7 percent (4-15) from beyond the arc and just 66.7 percent (12-18) from the free throw line in the game. Asheville outscored Longwood 17-6 on  second chances in the game, while also scoring eight points off turnovers, 32 points in the paint, five points on fastbreaks and six points off the bench. Deborah Orianegbena added six points in the game, while Aileen Marquez had four points to go along with three from D'yanna Maxey and two from two from Kristen McMillan. Asheville out-worked Longwood on the glass 49-36, paced by 10 boards from Freeman to complete her first career double-double. Green finished just one board shy of a double-double with nine, while Orianegbena also pulled down nine rebounds in the game. McDaniel grabbed eight rebounds including the 500th of her collegiate career, while McMillan also had four rebounds in the game. Marquez added three rebounds, while Maxey also had one.
