Green's Double-Double Not Enough in Loss to Radford

ASHVILLE, N.C. - Nia Green recorded her seventh double-double of the season to include scoring her 500th career point, but it was not enough in a 73-45 loss to Radford on Wednesday (Feb. 11).

The teams started off a bit slow offensively in the first quarter, playing to just an 8-8 tie through six and a half minutes. Radford would close the first quarter on a 14-3 run to take a 22-11 lead to the second. Radford won the second quarter 14-8 to take a 36-19 lead to the third quarter.

Asheville responded scoring 19 points in the third quarter while holding Radford to 13 points in the frame. The Bulldogs opened the quarter on an 13-4 run through the first five minutes and change, with six straight Bulldog points from Green and two buckets from D'yanna Maxey followed by another Green score. Radford would go on to score nine of the quarter's final 15 points to take a 49-38 lead to the fourth.

Radford scored 24 points in the fourth quarter holding Asheville to just seven to bring the game to its final score.

Asheville shot 36.5 percent (19-52) from the field, just 18.8 percent (3-16) from three-point range and just 33.3 percent (4-12) from the foul line in the game. Asheville outscored Radford 10-4 on second chances in the game, while also scoring 12 points off turnovers, 26 points in the paint, 10 points on fast breaks and five points off the bench. Green put together another double-double with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, finishing just two points shy of her career-high. Journee McDaniel added seven points, while Maxey had five points and Kristen McMillan added four. Trinity Fields scored three points in the game, while Deborah Orianegbena had two and Jaidyn Koerdt and Taliya Council each had one. Along with Green's 10 boards, Orianegbena had seven while Maxey grabbed four and McDaniel posted three. McMillan and Aileen Marquez each had two boards in the game, while Fields and Sara Yarnell each had one rebound in the game. Green led the team with five assists in the game, while McDaniel and Council each had one. McDaniel led the effort with two steals, while Maxey and Marquez each had one. McDaniel and Marquez also each had one block in the game.
