02.28.2026 | Men's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon inside Kimmel Arena, falling to Charleston Southern, 92-75.

Prior to tipoff, the Bulldogs honored their five senior members: Toyaz Solomon, Justin Wright, DJ Patrick, David Hermes, and Rasheed Baldwin.

Asheville came out aggressive in the opening half, building multiple possessions of control and taking a six-point lead into the break, 39-33. The Buccaneers responded with an 11-0 run midway through the second half and stretched the lead to as many as 18 points in the final frame.

After shooting 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, Charleston Southern improved to 74.1 percent shooting in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 59-36 over the final 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs were led by Kameron Taylor, who finished with 35 points, marking the most points scored in a game by a Bulldog since Drew Pember recorded 36 on Feb. 3, 2024. Taylor went 12-of-22 from the field, 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and 8-of-12 at the free throw line while also recording a team-high five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.

Toyaz Solomon added 23 points, going 8-of-17 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. He also pulled down five rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded a block.

Justin Wright finished with nine points and two assists, while Myles Mayfield and Daniel Thomas each grabbed five rebounds.

Asheville shot 46 percent (26-of-56) from the floor and finished with 40 points in the paint, but were unable to overcome Charleston Southern's perimeter shooting and second-half surge, as the Buccaneers knocked down 14 three-pointers compared to the Bulldogs' four.

Asheville finishes the regular season 14-16 and 8-8 in league play. The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the Big South Conference Championship with the quarterfinal round beginning Friday, March 6.
