Sofia Segui Named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis player Sofia Segui has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Feb. 11).

Segui helped Asheville to the first win of the Jeff Maren era back on Saturday (Feb. 7) in a 7-0 win at South Carolina State. Segui teamed up with Angelina Joy Hug for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while also winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

This is Segui's first career Freshman of the Week honor. The Calvia, Spain native is a business management major.

"Sophia has worked hard to maximize her skills this year, and so this recognition is deserved and earned!" said head coach Jeff Maren. "Great things are still to come for her!"

The Bulldogs (1-1) return to action next Friday (Feb. 13) at Eastern Kentucky in non-conference action. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. from Richmond, Ky. with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
