ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped a tight Big South Conference contest to visiting Longwood by a score of 1-0 on Friday (Oct. 9). This brings an end to the six-match win streak that matched a program-best from both 1996 and 2005.
Â
The teams traded runs, chances and possession throughout the first half, despite the horn sounding through 45 minutes with the match still scoreless. Asheville outshot Longwood 7-4 in the opening half and also earned one corner kick while holding Longwood without one. Longwood would score the match's only goal in the 53rd minute, when a connecting pass from Sam Fischer found Peyton Curney who then played it forward to Madison Fitzpatrick who scored her third of the season for the game-winner. Asheville would outshoot Longwood 12-10 in the second half, but was ultimately unable to find the back of the net. Two of Asheville's biggest chances in the second half came from the penalty spot, but the Bulldogs were unable to convert in the match.
