M'Bamba's Brace Not Enough in Loss at Radford
10.18.2026 | Men's Soccer
RADFORD, Va. - Kayoum M'Bamba's brace was not enough for UNC Asheville Men's Soccer in a 4-2 loss at Radford on Sunday (Oct. 18).
Â
Radford started the scoring early, with Carson Danner scoring from Noel Zimbeva in the 13th minute for a 1-0 Highlanders lead. Heading to the final 15 minutes of the first half, Asheville would mount an offensive rush that saw Arnor Hardarson along the far edge of the box off a turnover. Hardarson played the ball through the box with Joseph Ling getting a touch before M'Bamba stashing it home for his seventh goal of the season and of his career in the 30th minute. Hardarson picked up his fourth assist of the season and seventh of his career on the play, while Ling earned his second assist of the season and fourth of his career. Radford would answer with a goal three minutes later when Zimbeva scored his sixth of the season off assists from Skyler Denny and Mauricio Jimenez as the Highlanders would take a 2-1 lead to the break.
Â
The teams traded runs, chances and possession early on in the second half, before the Bulldogs would set up a crossing ball into the box that would lead to the equalizer in the 70th minute. Ian Smith played a cross into the box that was initially knocked down by a Radford defender, before M'Bamba stashed it home for his first brace as a Bulldog to tie the match up again. Radford again responded with a quick answer, with Zimbeva registering a brace of his own with a penalty kick goal in the 74th minute to give Radford the lead right back. The Highlanders would bring the match to its final score with a goal in the final minute from Brice Hall assisted by Jayce Pagano.
Â
Asheville totaled 14 shots in the match, including eight on frame. Taichi Nogami, Tyler Ware and M'Bamba each registered three shots to pace the offense with Nogami recording a new career-high, while Ling matched his career-high with two shots in the match. Charlie Wood, Hardarson and Woody Angell each posted one shot in the match. Lucca Barros (8-4-1) made six saves between the pipes in the match.
Â
The Bulldogs (9-4-1, 3-2-0 Big South Conference) return to action next Saturday (Oct. 24) hosting USC Upstate in the latest installment of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
