UNC Asheville Athletics Opens Sherri and Rob Daniels Golf Center

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletics has officially unveiled the Sherri and Rob Daniels Golf Center, a new on-campus practice facility for the UNC Asheville women's golf program.
In the fall of 2024, the women's golf team lost its practice facility as a result of Hurricane Helene. Throughout portions of 2025, the team utilized a temporary practice space provided by the Country Club of Asheville while the department worked to identify a permanent on-campus solution.
During this period, Sherri and Rob Daniels were serving as mentors in the athletic department's Leaders for Leaders program. When the couple asked their mentee how they could best support the program, the student-athlete shared the team's need for a dedicated space—one that included lockers, practice areas, and a place to gather on campus.
Motivated by this need, Sherri and Rob began exploring ways to help. In September 2025, they approached Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone to express their interest in supporting the women's golf program through a new facility. Following that conversation, Cone quickly developed a plan to bring the vision to life.
One of the Daniels' key requests was that the facility be located on campus. Within the Student Recreation Center, racquetball courts were identified as being used sparingly. After discussions and planning, one of the courts was transitioned into a dedicated golf practice space.
The Daniels also expressed a desire for the facility to be completed and ready for the team upon its return from the 2025 holiday break. After finalizing the space, completing designs and mock-ups, and coordinating project logistics, the facility was fully operational by December 31, 2025.
The Sherri and Rob Daniels Golf Center features two golf simulators, a state-of-the-art putting area, lockers for each player, and a viewing area. The new facility reflects UNC Asheville Athletics' commitment to providing an environment that empowers student-athletes to pursue their goals at the highest level.
The generosity of Sherri and Rob Daniels will have a lasting impact not only on the current women's golf team but also on future generations of UNC Asheville women's golfers.
