Volleyball Opens Big South Conference Play against USC Upstate

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team opens Big South Conference play on Friday (Sept. 26), as the Bulldogs host USC Upstate in the Justice Center.
Friday's match is a part of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry. USC Upstate currently has a 3-0 rivalry lead for the 2025-26 season.

HISTORY
The Bulldogs have a 13-12 Division I record against the Spartans. Upstate has won seven of the last 10 games against Asheville, with the Spartans winning both matches last season.
A LOOK AT THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate enters Big South play 7-6. Upstate earned three Big South Conference weekly honors following the team's performance last week. Ady O'Grady was named Player of the Week after totaling 58.0 points and averaging 5.27 points per set. She led the league with 47 kills (4.27 per set), highlighted by a record-setting performance of 23 kills against The Citadel. O'Grady hit .538 in that match and finished the week with an impressive .415 hitting percentage.
Kamyla Vega David led all league setters in both total assists and assists per set, dishing out 121 for an average of 11.00 per set. She finished the week as the only player in the conference to post more than 9.00 assists per set. David also tallied nine blocks — the most among league setters — highlighted by a career-high-tying five against Northern Arizona.
Kensley Haneline earned Freshman of the Week after leading all Big South freshmen in total kills, kills per set, total points, and points per set, finishing the week with 38 kills (3.45 per set) and 42.5 points (3.86 per set). Among league rookies, she ranked second in hitting percentage at .360, boosted by a career-best .598 mark in a win over The Citadel. That match also saw her record a career-high 18 kills against the Bulldogs.
BULLDOG BITES
The Bulldogs (3-10) enter this week following a 0-2 weekend in the Battle of North Carolina. In their first match of the day, the Bulldogs fell to North Carolina A&T despite finishing with a higher hitting percentage and more blocks than the Aggies. Ana Djurovic had a standout performance with a career-high 17 kills and 18 digs. She led the team with 18 points.
In the second game of the day, Asheville fell in a five-set battle to UNCG. Djurovic once again had a standout performance with 15 kills, a career-high seven service aces, and 13 digs for a match-high 22 points. Kylie Cackovic finished with a game-high 18 kills and six digs, while Herlehy was dominant at the net with 13 kills, one solo, and seven block assists.
The Bulldogs enter league play at No. 1 in blocks with 120 total blocks and 2.45 per set. Hereley leads the Big South with 68 total blocks and 1.39 per set.
