Bulldogs Blank VMI for Second Straight Shutout

LEXINGTON, Va. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer blanked VMI 2-0 on Sunday (Aug. 31) for the team's second straight shutout to move to 3-1-1 on the season. This marks the first time since a 1-0 win at VMI back on Aug. 20, 2023 and a 1-0 win at Davidson back on Aug. 24, 2023 that the Bulldogs have recorded back-to-back shutouts. In addition, the Bulldogs not surrendered a goal in their last four trips to Lexington dating back to 2013.

Asheville got off to its quickest start of the season, taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes in. Campbell Stoll carried the ball up the far wing before playing a ball forward into the box finding the feet of Lilly Graumann. Graumann found the back of the net off the bounce for her second goal of the season, with Stoll picking up her second helper of the season and of her career.

The teams traded runs throughout the second half, before Asheville would create a turnover in the VMI end just shy of midfield. Stoll fed Lili Adams who launched a missile to the top right corner of the net for her second goal of the season to give Asheville a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.
Asheville outshot VMI 21-10 in the contest including 11-3 in shots on goal. Asheville also outworked VMI for corner kicks 9-2 in the match. Abby Foulk paced Asheville with a career-high six shots in the match, while Georgia Duke tied her career-high with four shots in the contest. Akari Kishida, Graumann and Adams each had two shots in the match, while Kathleen Doane, Maneula Schreier, Shae Hassig, Karlee Benz and Alexa Francis each had one shot in the contest. The shot for Doane was the first of her career from the back line. Gracie Murray (2-1-1) made three saves in her second shutout of the season, and the eighth of her career.

The Bulldogs (3-1-1) return to action on Thursday (Sept. 4) to host South Carolina State in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
