Bulldogs Ride Second Half Wave to 9-0 Win over Mars Hill

08.27.2025 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer rode a wave of eight second half goals to a 9-0 win over Mars Hill at Greenwood Field on Wednesday (Aug. 27), marking the most goals the program has scored in a match since a 10-2 win over The Citadel back on Oct. 17, 2001.

The first goal of the game came in the 16th minute, when Campbell Stoll and Abby Foulk advanced the ball down the near wing before it was crossed into the box and put home by Lilly Graumann for her first goal as a Bulldog.
The Bulldogs kept up the offensive pressure throughout the first half but were unable to find the back of the net again in the first half. Asheville would take its 1-0 lead to the half.

Asheville would strike first in the second half in the 53rd minute when Karlee Benz found Nao Kawasaki who beat the Mars Hill keeper for her first of the season.

Asheville would strike again in the 60th minute, when Akari Kishida sniped a free kick to the lower right corner for her first goal in an Asheville uniform. Manuela Schreier would net her first goal as a Bulldog less than a minute later to make it 4-0 off the first career assist from Shae Hassig with an absolute rocket to the top shelf. Just over two minutes later, Campbell Stoll would score the first of her college career striking a feed to the top of the cage from a long way out off of Abby Foulk's first career assist. In the 67th minute, Kishida would net her second of the night off a free kick from outside the box marking her first multi-goal game in an Asheville uniform. Two minutes after, Asheville mounted another offensive attack leading to a foul in the box and Kawasaki stepping to the penalty spot. Kawasaki buried her first career penalty kick goal to notch her third career multi-goal game. Asheville would mount yet another offensive minutes later, after a ball played into the box off a combination play from Alexa Francis and Maleigh Dawson. Olivia Simpson was there to stash home her first career goal on the play, with Francis and Dawson both picking up their first career assists on the play. Asheville's final goal of the night came in the 89th minute, when another Mars Hill foul in the box sent Emilee Nooney to the penalty spot. Nooney would score the first of her career on the penalty as Asheville walked away with the win.

In total in the match, Asheville outshot Mars Hill 38-4 and 18-0 in shots on goal. Asheville also outworked Mars Hill 8-2 on corner kicks. Foulk and Emmie Henderson each paced Asheville with a career-high five shots in the match, while Georgia Duke and Simpson each registered a career-high four attempts in the contest. Kishida and Lili Adams each had three shots in the match with Kishida matching her career-high, while Stoll, Graumann, Schreier, Francis and Kawasaki each had two shots in the contest. Stoll and Graumann each set a new career-high, while Francis matched hers. Benz, Nooney, Ashley Macfarlane and Jordan Schaetzly each had one shot in the match for Asheville. Sophomore Alison Little (1-0-0) picked up her first career shutout between the pipes on the night.

The Bulldogs (2-1-1) return to action on Sunday (Aug. 31) at VMI in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. from Lexington Va., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
