ASHEVILLE, N.C. -Â Maddy Ireton has joined the UNC Asheville Women's Soccer staff as the program's new assistant coach, announced today (Wednesday, July 2) by head coach Andy McNab. She will work primarily with the goalkeepers.
Ireton spent the previous two seasons at Division II Ashland University working with the goalkeepers. The team finished the 2024 season ranked No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in the Midwest Region with a 17-2-2 record. The coaching staff earned Midwest region Staff of the Year honors, while Ireton coached Mackenzie Simon to two statistical championships in Division II. Simon led all of Division II in both Goals Against Average and save percentage.
"We are very excited to have Maddy on the staff for the coming year," said McNab. "She brings a great deal of experience and energy to the role. I believe she will play a vital role in the continuing success of the program."
Prior to her time at Ashland, she spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Kenyon College. Prior to Kenyon, she was on staff at Lake Erie College for two seasons after serving as a graduate assistant for two years. In addition to her college coaching experience, she also worked with ODP Ohio State for seven years. She was a four-year member of the soccer team at Division III Wooster College, where she was a team captain of the 2018 team that won the NCAC and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1996. In 2017 she was a NCAC All-Tournament Team selection and NCAC Player of the Week on Sept. 11, 2017. She was also the team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and was named to the NCAC Honor Roll.
"It's an honor to be joining the UNC Asheville team," said Ireton. "From my first conversations with Coach McNab, Colin Smith and Janet R. Cone, it was clear that this is a program built on integrity, leadership and a shared vision. I'm very thankful for the opportunity and for the many people who've helped me get to this point!"
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wooster, as well as a master's degree in education from Lake Erie College.
