"We're absolutely thrilled to welcome Matt Gilbertson to the UNC Asheville baseball coaching staff," said Raburn. As a former All‑ACC pitcher and Player Development Coach at the University of Pittsburgh, Matt brings elite-level experience and a proven ability to elevate pitchers at all stages of development. His deep understanding of pitching is exactly what we need to take our arms to the next level. I'm confident our pitchers will benefit immensely from his insight and leadership."

Gilbertson also pitched professionally for the Williamsport Crosscutters (2022) and for HROSI Bruno in the Czech Republic (2023).

"I couldn't be more excited and grateful for the opportunity given to me by Alex and the UNC Asheville administration," said Gilbertson. "Our visions for the future of this program align perfectly and I can't wait to get to work to bring the UNC Asheville baseball program to new heights!"
