DaMarr Harvey Strikes Gold Twice; Eight Podium Finishes for Asheville Conclude Conference Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track and field team completed the final day of the Big South Conference Championships on Wednesday (May 14), and DaMarr Harvey and Shemarr Session highlighted the day for Asheville with four podium finishes to conclude the championship meet.
The men's team finished third with 130 points, 11 points more than what the Bulldogs were projected to get, and the women's team finished sixth with 54 points, 16 points ahead of what they were projected to get.
HARVEY STRIKES FOR GOLD
Harvey earned gold in the men's 100m and the 200m, finishing the 100m with a new school record time of 10.28. Harvey finished in third at last year's conference championship in the 100m. In the 200m, Harvey won, for the second year in a row, with a time of 20.82, his fastest time of the season.
TWO-TIME FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Session's successful freshman campaign carried over to outdoor season, as he concluded the championship meet by earning Big South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year Honors. Session started the day off with a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.37. In the 200m, he joined Harvey on the podium with a third-place finish at 21.09. Session holds the 200m school record at 20.66.
ALL-CONFERENCE RELAY TEAMS
The men's 4x100m relay team started the day off with a second-place finish with a time of 39.80, a new school record. The relay team comprised Harvey, Session, Joseph Oliver, and Nkosi Jeju.
The men's 4x400m relay team concluded the day with a third-place finish with a time of 3:14.81. This was the first time this season that the squad of Harvey, Session, Christopher Owens, and Adam Graham competed in the 4x400.
DEJA VU FINISH
Paul Kiprotich and Adam Hessler made their way to the podium for the second time this week, as the duo finished second and third in the 5,000m. Kiprotich finished second in 14:29.84, and Hessler finished third in 14:32.28.
