Asheville Falls to Winthrop in Semifinals of Big South Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team's season ended on Saturday, as the Bulldogs fell to Winthrop 86-67 in the Semifinal Round of the Big South Conference Championship.
Toyaz Solomon led Asheville with 15 points, going 5-7 from the field and 5-6 from the charity stripe. He led the team with eight rebounds. Kameron Taylor followed with 14 points, going 4-6 from the field and 5-6 from the charity stripe. He added six rebounds and two blocks to his stat line. Josh Banks had 10 points and seven rebounds to round out the Bulldogs in double-figures.
Greg Gantt Jr. had a team-high eight rebounds and five assists and added six points to his stat line. Jordan Marsh had eight points, Fletcher Abee had seven points and Connor Dubsky had six.
Asheville opened Saturday's contest with a basket from Greg Gantt Jr., and held the lead through the first eight minutes of play. The Bulldogs extended their lead to five points, following a 3-pointer from Josh Banks, before a 12-3 run from Winthrop put the Eagles ahead 21-17. Winthrop would capitalize on this momentum, extending its lead out to double-figures with 8:11 to go in the first half, and entered the halftime break ahead 46-30. Eagles led by 14 points or more for the entire second half.
Asheville finished the season 21-11.
