Asheville Falls to Presbyterian in Final Home Contest

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team hosted Presbyterian on Wednesday (Feb. 26) in Kimmel Arena and fell to the Blue Hose 64-59. 

Asheville started the game on an 8-0 run, with a tip-in from Toyaz Solomon starting the scoring. Solomon finished the night with 21 points, going 9-15 from the field, and had eight rebounds. Presbyterian got on the board with a triple before three consecutive baskets from Jordan Marsh put Asheville ahead 14-5. Marsh also finished with 21 points, going 9-19 from the field, and tied his career-high five steals. 

Back-to-back jumpers from Solomon earned Asheville its largest lead of the night (18-6) with 11:48 to go in the first half. Over the next 5:41, Presbyterian would go on a 14-2 run to even the score at 20. Layups from Marsh and Solomon would help Asheville back out to a four-point lead, but the Blue Hose responded with the following eight points to take a four-point lead (28-24). Kameron Taylor brought Presbyterian's lead down to one with a triple at the end of the first half. Taylor finished the night with eight points. 

Presbyterian opened the second half with back-to-back baskets to take a six-point lead (33-27). Marsh responded with the next five points to put the Bulldogs down by one, and a tip-in from Solomon helped Asheville back in the lead with under 17 minutes to go. Asheville concluded its 10-0 run with a layup from Fletcher Abee (37-33), but the Bulldogs' lead was short-lived, as back-to-back 3-pointers from PC put the Blue Hose ahead by two. The two teams would go back and forth over the next 10:44, with neither team taking more than a 3-point lead. A free throw from Solomon put Asheville ahead by three with 4:07 remaining before PC knotted the game at 50. A jumper from Presbyterian's Kaleb Scott put the Blue Hose ahead by two, and Presbyterian held the lead for the remainder of the contest.  

The Bulldogs drop to 20-9 and 11-4 in Big South play. Asheville will return to the court for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, March 1, as Asheville travels to Rock Hill to take on Winthrop at 4 p.m.
