Anna Marcotti Earns Atlantic Sun Conference Swimmer of the Week Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. - UNC Asheville senior Anna Marcotti has earned Atlantic Sun Conference Swimmer of the Week honors, announced by the league today (Tuesday, Dec. 16).

Marcotti's individual effort helped the Bulldogs to a thrilling 158.5-141.5 victory over Georgia Southern over the weekend (Dec. 12-13). Following the sixth event of the day in the 200 fly, the Bulldogs trailed by as many as 36 points in the meet. Asheville went on to post eight straight event wins and pull away in the final relay to mount a massive comeback at home.

Marcotti paced the Bulldogs with three individual wins on the day, taking the 200 free (1:55.03), the 50 free (24.30) and the 100 free (52.91). She also led the winning 200 free relay team with a split of 24.29. In total, Marcotti contributed 27 points to the meet for Asheville as an individual.

"Anna did an excellent job stepping up in our dual meet on Saturday," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "Her winning three individual events was a massive point addition to boost the team score. As well as leading off the winning relay in the final race of the meet. She swam so well at a challenging time of year; we are excited to see what her last term of collegiate swimming holds!"

This is Marcotti's second Swimmer of the Week honor of the season, and the second of her career. The Pondenone, Italy native is a business major.

The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0 ASUN) return to the water Jan. 9 when the swimmers head to Gardner-Webb in Atlantic Sun Conference action. The teams will hit the water at 5:00 p.m. from Boiling Springs, N.C.
