ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team was unable to overcome a strong first-half performance from St. Thomas, falling 80-59 on Saturday afternoon in Kimmel Arena.
St. Thomas opened the game with an efficient offensive showing, shooting 48.4 percent from the field in the first half and building a 46-25 advantage at the break. The Tommies knocked down six three-pointers before halftime and forced nine Asheville turnovers to create separation early.
The Bulldogs responded with improved play in the second half, matching St. Thomas with 34 points over the final 20 minutes. Kameron Taylor led Asheville's offensive effort, finishing with a game-high 22 points–14 coming in the second half–to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Justin Wright added 11 points, while Toyaz Solomon chipped in eight points in the paint. Myles Mayfield contributed a team-high eight rebounds and added seven points to his stat line.
UNC Asheville shot 52.0 percent in the second half and held St. Thomas to just three made three-pointers after intermission, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
The Bulldogs are back in Kimmel Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 16, as Asheville takes on Kentucky Christian at 6:30 p.m.
