Cross Country Set to Compete in Regional Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville cross country teams will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14. The women's 6k will commence at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k at 11:00 a.m. 

The University of Virginia will host the meet on the Panorama Farms course. UNC Asheville will start from box No. 11 (women) and box No. 13 (men).

The top two teams from each region automatically advance to next week's NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. The DI Cross Country Subcommittee will select 13 additional teams at large, and the first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team will also be selected for the championships.

Regional Rankings

Asheville will compete against 41 other schools, including familiar faces from the 2025 season, such as Clemson, College of Charleston, Furman, Louisville, Murray State, and Western Carolina. 

On the men's side, the University of Virginia enters the championships as defending champions and this season's ranked No. 1.

On the women's side, N.C. State is projected to dominate the field as defending champions and this season's ranked No. 1. North Carolina made an impressive jump from eighth to second in regional rankings last week to also put themselves in contention for an auto-qualifying spot. N.C. State won the women's title last year with 60 points. 

Conference Recap

The UNC Asheville women's cross country team earned its best finish in 21 years with a runner-up performance at the Big South Championships (Oct. 31). The men placed third overall, and the combined team's finish marked the highest finish for the Bulldogs in 25 years. 

Alison Graf secured a seventh-place finish in the women's 5k, earning a spot on the All-Conference First team as the Bulldog's fastest finisher. Isabel Richardson and Aneta Kucerová earned All-Conference Second Team spots, placing ninth (18:11) and 11th (18:20). This marked the first time since 2003 that Asheville has had three women earn All-Conference honors. 

Jan Málek led the charge on the men's side, moving eight places up the field to earn a spot on the All-Conference Second Team with his ninth-place finish in 25:14 over 8k. Next across the line for Asheville was Yates Hockaday (17th, 25:45), and Quinn Jacquez (18th, 25:46).
