Volleyball Prepares for Two Big South Home Matches

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team prepares to host two Big South Conference matches this weekend in the Justice Center. The Bulldogs will open the weekend against Charleston Southern on Friday (Oct. 3) before facing Presbyterian on Saturday (Oct. 4).

HISTORY
The Bulldogs have a 40-21 conference record against the Buccaneers. Last November, Asheville broke its eight-game losing streak against Charleston Southern with a three-set sweep at home.
A LOOK AT THE BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers enter this weekend 9-6 and 1-0 in conference play after defeating Presbyterian on Friday (Sept. 26). CSU hosted NC Central this past Tuesday and defeated the Eagles in three sets.
Charleston Southern is No. 1 in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.170), opponent assists (10.56), and opponent kills (11.47). Skylar Yates leads the league with 24 aces and the Buccaneers with 159 kills.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian enters this weekend 4-9 and 0-1 after falling to CSU last Friday. The Blue Hose are second in the Big South in digs, averaging 16.51 a set. Anisa Dorlous is second in the league in assists with 8.56 a set. Julia Yurkovich leads PC with 141 kills.
BULLDOG BITES
The Bulldogs (4-10) are coming off a thrilling Big South Conference win over USC Upstate this past Friday. The match went to a deciding fifth set with the Bulldogs prevailing over the Spartans 20-18. Asheville's conference-opening victory marks the first time since 2010 and 2011 that the Bulldogs have recorded back-to-back conference-opening wins.
The Bulldogs dominated the serving game in Friday night's match, recording 11 aces to Upstate's two, including the game-winning ace from Selina Koc. Payton Rolfsen and Ana Djurovic tied for the game-high with four aces apiece. Rolfsen and Koc both tallied double-doubles on the match with 30 assists and 18 digs, and 16 assists and 17 digs, respectively.
Defensively, Michelle Thao recorded 29 digs and eight assists on the match, and for her efforts against the Spartans, Thao was named the conference's Libero of the Week. Friday was Thao's fifth match with over 20 digs this season, and she is third in the conference in digs with 223. The Bulldogs lead the Big South conference in blocks, with 120 on the season, an average of 2.45 per set, and hold the third-highest hitting percentage, hitting .196 as a team.
