Colby Guy Named Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Asheville Baseball Selected Seventh in Big South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior pitcher Colby Guy was selected as the Big South Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while the Bulldogs were picked seventh in the Preseason Coaches' Poll announced by the league today (Wednesday, Jan. 22).
 
Guy appeared in 14 games in his first season in Asheville, making 13 starts. Along with a 7-4 record, Guy finished eighth in the league in earned run average (4.35), sixth in the league in batting average against (.250), sixth in the league in innings pitched (70.1) and eighth in the league in strikeouts (68). Guy was also named the Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the week on Apr. 23, 2024, and later named an All-Big South Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Guy is  a native of Chester, S.C. and a health sciences major. 
 
High Point topped the preseason poll with 76 points and four first-place votes, while  USC Upstate was picked second with 64 points and two first-place votes. Gardner-Webb was tabbed third with one first-place vote, while Presbyterian was slated fourth with 47 points. Charleston Southern was picked fifth with 46 points, while Winthrop was picked sixth with 43 points and one first-place vote followed by Asheville in seventh with 37 points. Radford with 25 points and the remaining first-place vote and Longwood with 17 points rounded out the poll.
 
Asheville returns 21 players from a season ago, adding six transfers and 12 freshmen.
 
The Bulldogs open the season on Friday, Feb. 14 at home against Fairleigh Dickinson. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
