Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Five with Sweep of UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team rounded out their weekend trip to Maryland with a 3-0 sweep over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday.
With Sunday's victory, the Bulldogs extended their win streak to five, the longest since 2018.
SET-BY-SET
First Set (25-23) – Maryland Eastern Shore was poised to take the opening frame of the match as the Hawks jumped out to a 17-10 lead. Trailing by four, a kill from Matilde Teixeira sparked a four-point Bulldog rally to tie the score at 21. The Hawks took a one-point lead with a kill, but Asheville answered by scoring the final three points of the set to complete the comeback and take a 1-0 match lead.
Second Set (25-18) – In the second frame, both teams were locked at six before Asheville went on a 5-0 run, sparked by three consecutive kills by Teixeira. UMES brought the score within one (15-14), but that was as close as the Hawks would get, as Asheville held its lead for the rest of the set, closing it on a 5-0 run to win the second frame.
Third Set (25-17) – The Bulldogs' momentum carried over to the third set as the Bulldogs were able to put the match away in three. Tied at 10, a kill from Albertine van der Goot sparked a 4-point rally for Asheville. Ahead 17-14, the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to take a nine-point lead before going on to win the match.

Teixeira led the team with 15 kills, adding eight digs, three assists, three aces and a block assist to her stat line to lead the team with 18.5 points in the match. Riley Barr had 14 assists and Payton Rolfsen had 11 and Michelle Thao had 14 digs. Kylie Cackovic had seven kills and seven digs, and Lydia Pate had five kills, two solo blocks and a block assist.
As a team, the Bulldogs had a .215 attack percentage, while UMES had a .073.

The Bulldogs remain on the road as they travel to Charlotte on Tuesday, Sept. 17, for a 6 p.m. matchup.
