Volleyball Travels to UMES for Weekend Tournament

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After a thrilling victory over Western Carolina in the Justice Center on Tuesday, the UNC Asheville volleyball team heads to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game weekend tournament.
The Bulldogs open the weekend on Saturday (Sept. 14) as they face Iona at 10 a.m. and Hampton at 2 p.m. Asheville rounds out the weekend on Sunday (Sept. 15) against tournament host UMES at 10 a.m.
ASHEVILLE'S LAST TIME OUT
Asheville defeated the Catamounts in four sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22) Tuesday evening. This marked the first time the Bulldogs have defeated the Catamounts in the Justice Center since 2018 and improved Asheville's overall record against WCU to 46-40.
Michelle Thao continued her strong performance on the court, notching a career-high of 24 digs. Baylor Herlehy had a standout match, leading the team with 11 kills, five service aces, and six blocks.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Iona enters this weekend 0-6 after going 0-3 in the Boston College Invitational and the UAlbany Invitational. This will be the first time Asheville will faces Iona in program history.
Hampton is 0-7 entering this weekend. The Bulldogs hold a 7-2 series lead over the Pirates, who used to be a member of the Big South Conference.
UMES is 2-3 entering the weekend and holds a 5-2 series lead over Asheville. Last season, UMES competed in Asheville's home tournament, and the Bulldogs split the tournament with the Hawks, falling in five sets in the first match and winning 3-0 in the second.
