ASHEVILLE, N.C. - After claiming the Men's Doubles title at Wimbledon back in July, UNC Asheville Men's Tennis alum Henry Patten '19 is ready for a return to the world stage of tennis at the upcoming US Open.
Â
The tournament runs from Aug. 26-Sept. 8 in Flushing, N.Y. at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The draws and match times will be announced tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 25).
Â
Patten will team up with Harri Heliövaara of Finland yet again, after the duo's victory at Wimbledon. The duo is currently ranked No. 12 in the world in men's doubles heading into the tournament.
A 2019 graduate of UNC Asheville, Patten was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA) All-American in doubles and a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was a four-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference selection in singles play, and a three-time First Team All-Conference selection in doubles play. He was a seven-time Player of the Week selection, and a two-time Freshman of the Week selection. Patten also made an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division I national tournament for both singles and doubles. Patten was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019. He and Olli Nolan also won an Oracle ITA Fall National Championship in 2018.
On the heels of Patten's success on the major professional circuit, UNC Asheville announced in July plans to build a $4M on-campus tennis facility to house the men's and women's tennis programs. Peter and Sandi Heckman kick-started the project with their leadership gift.Â
