ASHEVILLE, N.C. -Â Peter and Sandi Heckman have made a leadership gift towards UNC Asheville's new on-campus tennis facility, announced today (Tuesday, July 23) by Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.
The Heckman's are dedicated UNC Asheville Bulldog fans and have supported the University in many ways for several years. Peter Heckman has been a member of the UNC Asheville Board of Trustees since 2019 and he currently serves as the Board's Vice-Chair. Sandi Heckman, the current Chair of the Bulldog Athletic Association, has been involved for several years by mentoring student-athletes and working with coaches and athletic donors in various capacities. The Heckman's retired to Asheville 10 years ago and reside in The Cliffs at Walnut Cove.
"Since becoming involved with UNC Asheville, Peter and Sandi Heckman have been investing their time, talents, and treasures in our Bulldogs," said Cone. "Their leadership gift to our on-campus tennis facility demonstrates once again their commitment to Asheville's University. On behalf of our student-athletes and coaches, I want to thank them for their very generous gift and for allowing us to Dream Bigger and Achieve More."
"We enjoyed playing tennis for much of our lives and are big fans of the game," said Peter Heckman. "With both UNC Asheville tennis teams' recent accomplishments, their pressing need for a respectable playing facility and a very viable plan to construct such a facility on campus now in place, Sandi and I felt it very appropriate and are very pleased to help kick-start the fund-raising effort for this important project."
The announcement of the on-campus tennis facility came back on July 18 as a part of the ALL IN Comprehensive Campaign.
For more information about this project, including naming opportunities for the entire facility, individual tennis courts, locker rooms, lobby or coaches' offices, please contact Janet R. Cone, Director of Athletics, at jcone@unca.edu or (828) 251-6922.
