ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis blanked Belmont Abbey 7-0 for a non-conference win on Wednesday (Mar. 27) at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The shutout marks Asheville's sixth of the season, the most in a year for the Bulldogs since 2015 (four).
Asheville swept all three doubles matches for the doubles point, before sweeping singles play to complete the shutout.
Freddy Murray and Sam Nicholson beat Brody Sawyer and Tyler Troche 6-1 at No. 3 to start doubles play, before Jon Brann Reid and Rafa Serra clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 over Joshua Mayhew and Samuel McGregor. Cian Ingles and Bruno Serra completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win over Peyton Williams and Sullivan Monteith at No. 2. Rafa Serra began doubles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Troche at No. 6, before Nicholson beat Ricard Novell 6-1, 7-6 (5-0) at No. 2. Murray went on to beat Zak Vince 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, before Bruno Serra beat Monteith 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5. Reid beat Jonas Berglund 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 3, before Ingles polished off the clean sheet with a 6-7, 7-6 (2-0), 1-0 (8-0) win over Mayhew at No. 4.
