Bulldogs Top Charleston Southern for Pivotal Big South Conference Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis topped Charleston Southern 4-3 for a pivotal Big South Conference win on Sunday (Mar. 24).
The Bulldogs won two out of three matches in doubles play for the doubles point, before taking three out of six matches in singles play for the win.
After dropping the first doubles contest at No. 3, Angelina Joy Hug and Rosie Dickson beat Amila Jusufbegovic and Brenda Yoris 6-3 at No. 2 to even up doubles play. Linge Steenkamp and Ari Siegel clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs with a 7-6 (8-6) victory over Noa Boyd and Jessica Braun at No. 1 doubles. Asheville jumped out to a 3-1 lead in doubles with the next two wins in singles play, the first coming from Steenkamp over Braun at No. 1 6-4, 6-1. Hug then put the Bulldogs further ahead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Yoris at No. 5, before Charleston Southern rallied to get within 3-2 with wins at No. 2 and No. 4. Alexis Nyborg clinched the match with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Boyd before Charleston Southern brought the match to its final score with a tiebreaker victory at No. 6.
