MIAMI, Fla. - UNC Asheville's distance swimmers competed at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Open Water Championships on Sunday (Dec. 15), finishing 12th in the competition.

Asheville placed ahead of Air Force, Vermont, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Central Connecticut State, Old Dominion and Marist in the event.

The Bulldogs were paced by freshman Celine Petruschke who finished 16th in 1:02.42. Caitlin Hefner also finished 37th in 1:05.05, while Grace Adams swam the event in 1:09.30. Kathryn Walters finished the race in 1:10.53, while Rose Sciaudone swam the event in 1:11.0.

"These five women worked extremely hard preparing for today's race," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "While conditions were not ideal, very choppy water and windy, they gave a great effort and emerged successful. We are proud of their efforts and our 12th-place finish."

The Bulldogs return to the water tomorrow (Monday, Dec. 16) as the divers face Florida International and Marshall in a double dual. The action begins at 4:00 p.m. from Miami, Fla.
