Swift Nets Career-High in Loss at Loyola (Md.)

BALTIMORE, Md. - UNC Asheville graduate student guard Alana Swift notched a career-high 14 points and was one of three Bulldogs to finish in double figures in a 67-51 loss at Loyola (Md.) on Saturday (Nov. 23).
 
The teams battled through a low-scoring first quarter with Loyola jumping out to a 9-2 lead before Asheville pushed back with a run of its own. Abigail Wilson had seven points in the first quarter as Loyola led 13-8 after 10 minutes.
 
Loyola outscored Asheville 21-12 in the second to take a 34-20 lead to the break.
 
Asheville scored 10 points in the third quarter before winning the fourth quarter 21-14 to bring the game to its final score.
 
Asheville shot 37.2 percent (16-43) from the field in the game, just 14.3 percent (2-14) from long range and 85 percent (17-20) from the foul line making a season-high 17 free throws in the game. Swift paced the offense with a career-high 14 points shooting 4-9 from the field and going a career-best 6-7 from the charity stripe in the game. Wilson finished the game with 11 points marking the first back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts in her career, while LaImani Simmons added 10 points off the bench. Skylar Bailey added a career-high six points off the bench, while Nycerra Minnis scored five points, Deborah Orianegbena had three and Laney Bone had two. Asheville out-rebounded an opponent for the first time this season edging Loyola 33-28 on the glass, paced by five rebounds apiece from Wilson and Bone. Jordan Tuff, Swift and Orianegbena each had four rebounds in the game with Orianegbena posting a new career-high, while Dakota McCaughan and Taylor Wilkins each had two rebounds in the game. Minnis, Simmons and Jazlyn Ware each pulled down one rebound in the game. Swift led the Bulldogs with three assists in the game, while Simmons had two and Wilson and Tuff each dished out one helper in the game. McCaughan, Swift and Simmons each had two steals in the game, while Orianegbena also had one steal in the game. Wilson and Swift each recorded one block in the game for Asheville.  
 
The Bulldogs return to the court on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at Wofford in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. from Spartanburg, S.C. with video, live stats and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
