Women's Soccer Drops Conference Opener at Longwood on Saturday

FARMVILLE, Va. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped its Big South Conference opener at Longwood on Saturday (Oct. 12) by a score of 1-0.

Longwood would eventually break through the defensive deadlock to score on a penalty kick in the 31st minute before ultimately taking a 1-0 lead to the break.

One of Asheville's best chances in the match came in the 74th minute, when Ashley Macfarlane knuckled a shot through a crowd that after a few wacky bounces ended up corralled by Longwood's keeper. Jordan Schaetzly was able to get a shot on target in the 84th minute, but Longwood would stand tall defensively to hold its shutout.

Azalea Mihailovich, Alexa Francis, Macfarlane and Schaetzly each posted one shot in the match for Asheville. Gracie Murray made five saves between the pipes, just one shy of her season-high and bringing her career total to 99.
