ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer notched its second straight win with a 2-1 victory over Evansville at Greenwood Field on Monday (Sept. 4), marking the first 3-1 start for the program since 1995.
The Bulldogs would strike first in the 11th minute, when Seth Hammond and Sam Pitts-Eckersall played touch and go down the near wing. Pitts-Eckersall took a touch and fed Hammond through the near side of the box, as Hammond beat Evansville keeper Jacob Madden low left for his first career goal to put Asheville up 1-0. Evansville responded five minutes later, when Kai Phillip scored from Nacho Diaz Barragan to tie the match. The teams would hold their defensive ends well for the remainder of the half, going to the break scoreless.
The teams would trade chances throughout the second half, before Aysa Hamid would create a turnover in the Evansville end in the 72nd minute. After picking an Evansville defender's pocket and making a move to his right, Hamid crossed the ball across the box before finding a crashing Pablo Obrador on the opposite post, with Obrador netting his first career goal which would turn out to be the game-winner.
Each team netted 16 shots in the match, while Asheville totaled three corner kicks in the contest. Brendan Herb and Hamid led the offensive attack for Asheville with three shots apiece, with Hamid matching his career-high. Hammond and Myles Edmondson each tied their career-high with two shots in the match, while Benian Yao, Conor Behan, Aidan Whitlock, Stewart Patnaud and Sergio Baguena each posted one shot in the match. Charlie Farrar (3-1-0) made six saves in the victory.
The Bulldogs (3-1-0) return to action on Saturday (Sept. 9) to host Georgia State for the annual "Be The Match" game. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
