Men's Soccer Falls to Presbyterian in Big South Conference Opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer fell to Presbyterian in the team's Big South Conference opener by a score of 3-2.
Presbyterian got the scoring started in the sixth minute, when Alex Walker scored from Darmony Hutchinson. Asheville would respond in the 12th minute, when Edvin Grolimund fed Aysa Hamid up the near wing. Hamid made one move to his right and beat Presbyterian keeper Beatty Murray for his second goal of the season. The teams would trade offensive chances with solid defensive play throughout the first half, before taking a 1-1 deadlock to the half.
Asheville got a great chance in the 74th minute, when Presbyterian committed a foul in the box setting up a penalty kick for Brendan Herb. Herb scored his first of the year to put Asheville up 2-1. Presbyterian would respond to tie the match just three minutes later, when Hutchinson scored his first of the season from Victor Faaborg Christensen. Christensen would put Presbyterian ahead for good in the 78th minute with his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Hutchinson and Jamari Busby.
Asheville out-shot Presbyterian 17-8 in the match, including 6-4 in shots on frame. Asheville also out-worked Presbyterian 6-5 on corner kicks. Sam Pitts-Eckersall led the Bulldogs with three shots in the match, while Herb, Stewart Patnaud, Hamid, Grolimund and Sergio Báguena each had two shots in the contest. Heath Flathau, Conor Behan, Myles Edmondson and Roger Sanguinetti each had one shot. Charlie Farrar (5-3-1) made one save in the loss.
The Bulldogs (5-3-1, 0-1-0) return to action next Saturday (Sept. 30) at Longwood in Big South Conference action. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Farmville, Va., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
