Bulldogs Record Second Straight Clean Sheet with 2-0 Win at East Tennessee State

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer recorded its second straight clean sheet with a 2-0 win at East Tennessee State Tuesday night (Sept. 19). Asheville has now notched back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2016, and accomplished the feat for the ninth time in program history.
The teams played to a scoreless first half, with Asheville out-shooting ETSU 8-6 and ETSU winning the corner kick battle 2-1.
The teams went back and forth throughout the second half, until the Bulldogs were finally able to break the ice in the 76th minute. Viðar Ragnarsson would score his first goal in an Asheville uniform, the third of his career off a league-leading fifth assist of the season from Brendan Herb. Asheville would get an insurance marker on the board in the 89th minute off an ETSU own goal to bring the contest to its final score.
Asheville out-shot ETSU 13-8 in the contest, including 6-3 in shots on frame. Seth Hammond led the way with a career-high four shots in the match, while Conor Behan had three and Herb, Benian Yao, Ragnarsson, Sergio Báguena and Edvin Grolimund each recorded one shot in the match. Asheville was edged 5-4 in corner kicks in the match. Charlie Farrar (5-2-1) made three saves in his second shutout of the season.
Asheville (5-2-1) returns to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 23) to host Presbyterian in the Big South Conference opener for Alumni Day. Alcohol will be sold at the match. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
