Asheville in Fifth, Two Bulldogs in the Top 20 After Day One of the Brittany Kelly Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. - UNC Asheville Women's Golf is in fifth place as a team, with two Bulldogs inside the Top 20 individually after day one of the Brittany Kelly Classic.

Asheville turned in a 606 (+30) total for the day as a team, tying for the fifth-lowest 36-hole team total in program history. Hailey Pendleton turned in even rounds of 74 (+2) for a total of 148 (+4) to sit in a tie for 10th, tying her for the 15th-lowest individual 36-hole total in program history. Madyson Gold turned in a total of 151 (+7) with rounds of 76 and 75 to sit in a tie for 18th, while Beryl Giletti posted rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153 (+9) total to finish in a tie for 25th. Presley Pickron also is tied for 25th individually after rounds of 79 (+7) and 74 (+2) for a total of 153, while Phoebe Carles also finished in a tie for 31st with rounds of 74 (+2) and 80 (+8) for a +10 total. Amber Capote also posted rounds of 84 and 82 on the day.

Pendleton's day began with four straight pars starting with No. 4, before making bogey on No. 8 and par on No. 9 before turning to the back. After back-to-back pars on No. 10 and No. 11, Pendleton made bogey on No. 12 before scoring par on the next three holes. After a bogey on No. 16, she would finish the back with pars on No. 17 and No. 18. Pendleton would make par on No. 1 and No. 2, before finishing with a birdie on No. 3. Her second round began with a par on No. 4 and a bogey on No. 5, before she recorded pars on the next four holes to make the turn to the back. After back-to-back bogeys on No. 10 and No. 11, she made par on the next three holes before making birdie on No. 15. She finished the back with three straight pars, before finishing her streak with three straight pars on the front to conclude her day.

Gold's day began with a par on No. 1, before making birdies on back-to-back holes. She would bogey No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, before making par on the next two holes and then finishing the front with a bogey on No. 8 and a par on No. 9. She began the back with a par on No. 10, before making bogey on the next two holes. After two straight pars, she would birdie No. 15, par the next two holes and bogey No. 18 to finish her first round. Her second round began with seven consecutive pars, before she finished the front with a birdie on No. 8 and a par on No. 9. The back nine began with three straight bogeys, before she recorded four straight pars and finished the round with a bogey on No. 17 and a par on No. 18.

"It was not a great day today," said head coach Ross Cash. "There were some bright spots, but we are a better team than we showed today. There are a lot of teams that we can pass tomorrow if we play our game and execute."

Asheville returns to the course tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 19) for the final day of tournament play. Play will begin with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start, with live results here.
