Bulldogs travel to Georgia Southern for Tuesday matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Georgia Southern to face the Eagles in nonconference action at 5 p.m. 

LAST TIME OUT 

Asheville competed in the Queens Fall Classic hosted by Queens University over the weekend and went 2-1. The Bulldogs dropped their Friday night match to the Citadel before bouncing back and picking up wins against Marshall and South Carolina State. With Saturday's victories, the Bulldogs move to 5-5 on the season. 

BLOCK PARTY 

Entering Tuesday's match, the Bulldogs are currently No. 3 in the Big South in Blocks with 75, averaging 2.14 a set. Baylor Herlehy remains at the top of the individual standings with 45 blocks, averaging 1.29 per set. 

Freshman Albertine van der Goot, who notched a triple-double in the Bulldogs' win over Marshall on Saturday, is No. 8 in the conference in blocks with 27. 

ACTION AT THE NET

On the offensive side of the ball, Herlehy is No. 4 in the conference in hitting percentage, with 56 kills off 130 attempts and only 14 errors for a .323. Matilde Teixeira, who posted a season-high 20 kills in Asheville's victory over Marshall, is No. 8 in the conference in hitting percentage (.238) and No. 4 in kills with 103 (3.03 avg/s). Teixeira is also No. 5 in the conference in points, as she has 114 and is averaging 3.35 a set. 

Ona Elkins and Kat Davis are listed at No. 8 and No. 9 in the league in assists, with Elkins averaging 3.97 a set and Davis averaging 3.46. 

ACE ACE ACE! 

Three Bulldogs have found their way on the Big South leaderboard for service aces, with Davis leading the way at No. 7, Michelle Thao at No. 8, and Elkins at No. 10. 

DIGGING OUR WAY UP 

Thao entered the leaderboard this week in digs, as she is No. 10 in the league with 89, averaging 2.62 a set. 

ABOUT THE EAGLES

This will be Asheville and Georgia Southern's eighth all-time matchup. The Eagles currently have a 5-2 lead over the Bulldogs, with their last matchup being on Sept. 2, 2022, which saw Georgia Southern winning 3-0. 

The Eagles enter Tuesday's match 7-1. Their lone loss happened on Sept. 8 against UTSA. The Eagles are No. 1 in the Sun Belt Conference in blocks (2.85 avg/s) and No. 2 in hitting percentage (.267).
