STATESBORO, Ga. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team traveled to face Georgia Southern Tuesday night and fell to the Eagles in three sets (25-12, 25-10, 25-15). With Tuesday's loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-6 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia Southern jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set and never looked back. The Eagles limited Asheville to eight points at the first media timeout and went on to allow the Bulldogs to score just four points for the rest of the set. Georgia Southern recorded 16 kills with only one error for a .500 hitting percentage and limited Asheville to eight kills.
In the second set, Georgia Southern carried its momentum over from the first, as the Eagles jumped ahead 15-4 at the first media timeout. The Eagles only allowed the Bulldogs to score six more points, as they took a quick 2-0 match lead.
Georgia Southern took a 3-0 lead to open the third set before a service error got Asheville on the board. A kill from Matilde Teixeira helped Asheville cut the Eagles' lead in half (4-2). This was as close as the Bulldogs would get, however, as Georgia Southern went on an 8-0 run to jump ahead 19-7. The Eagles took advantage of five Asheville attack errors during their run. Trailing 22-10, Asheville attempted a late-set comeback as they went on a 5-1 run, but a service error and a kill by Georgia Southern's Paige Powers helped the Eagles score the last two points and secure the sweep.
