Bulldogs Pick Up Road Win at Queens (N.C.) Friday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 road win Friday night (Sept. 1) against Queens (N.C.). With the victory, Asheville is off to its best start since the 2020 season.
Asheville would strike first in the contest with Brendan Herb's first goal of the season off an assist from Conor Behan in the 21st minute. In the 25th minute, a Queens player was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct, putting Asheville on the man advantage in the match. Asheville would increase the lead in the final minute of the first half, off of Jack Steel's first career goal that was assisted by Sergio Baguena. Asheville took the 2-0 lead to the half with momentum.
The Royals got on the board in the 47th minute off the foot of Luca Guiliano, before the Bulldogs would eventually respond to bring the match to its final score. Asheville would stretch its lead in the 64th minute as Behan would score his first of the season off of Herb's second assist of the year. Asheville would play the possession game late in the second half and run the clock out for its first road win of the 2023 season.
Asheville out-shot Queens 12-11 in the match, including 7-6 in shots on frame. Asheville also won the corner kick battle 5-4. Herb set a new career-high to lead the Bulldogs in shots (three), while Pablo Obrador set a new career-high with two shots in the match. Heath Flathau, Emilio Figueroa, Behan, Myles Edmondson, Edvin Grolimund, Steel and Benian Yao also registered shots in the match for Asheville. Charlie Farrar (2-1-0) made five saves in the victory.
The Bulldogs (2-1-0) are back on the pitch on Monday (Sept. 4) to host Evansville in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field in Asheville, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
