Volleyball Opens 2023 Season with four matches at the Justice Center

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A new era of UNC Asheville volleyball will begin this weekend by hosting the Woof Woof Invitational at the Justice Center. Asheville is slated to take on Alabama A&M (1 p.m.) and Maryland Eastern Shore (6 p.m.) on Friday before facing off against North Carolina Central (Noon) and a rematch against Maryland Eastern Shore (5 p.m.) on Saturday. All matches can be seen on ESPN+.
About the Invitational – This weekend's Invitational will feature four teams, including the Bulldogs, and a total of six matches will be played. Live stats will be available for all six matches and as mentioned previously, all the contests can be seen on ESPN+. All of the links can be found on the Invitational's Central Page HERE.
About the Bulldogs – Asheville, which posted a 4-22 record overall in 2022, will be under new leadership this fall as Amber Haver begins her first season leading the Bulldogs. Furthermore, the Bulldogs brought in 19 new players in the offseason to pair with the 11 returners.
Scouting the Opponents – In 2022, Alabama A&M went 7-26 with six of its seven wins coming in conference play. The Lady Bulldogs are figured to be led by Preseason All-SWAC selection Bailey Duckett. Duckett totaled 348.5 points as a freshman in 2022.
Maryland Eastern Shore compiled a record of 9-18 last fall. A player to watch for the Hawks is Nkemjika Ikemefuna, who totaled 189 kills and 32 blocks in her first collegiate season last fall.
North Carolina Central enters the 2023 campaign off a season where it went 7-19 overall and 6-8 in conference action. NCCU does return one of its top offensive players from last season in Kamren Harper, who led the team with 240 kills.
Series Rewind vs. This Week's Opponents – The Bulldogs have some history with all three of their opponents this weekend. Asheville is 4-1 all-time against Alabama A&M, 2-2 versus Maryland Eastern Shore, and 6-1 when taking on North Carolina Central. Maryland Eastern Shore is making its first trip to Asheville. As for Alabama A&M and North Carolina Central, the Bulldogs are a combined 5-0 against those two opponents at the Justice Center.
