Bulldogs wrap up Georgia Tech Invitational

04.22.2023 | Track and Field

ATLANTA - The UNC Asheville track and field teams finished up their regular season on Saturday (April 22) at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The teams fared well as they rounded out their season, with Claudia Prieto breaking her own women's triple jump school record for the second week in a row.

After breaking the school record in the triple jump last weekend at the Catamount Classic, Prieto unleashed a monster 12.60-meter jump in the final round to take second place in the event. At the beginning of the season, Prieto held the record in this event with a distance of 12.23-meters. In her past three meets she has bested her record, jumping a wind-aided 12.30-meters at VertKlasse and last week jumping a 12.44. She has now improved her record by 37 centimeters and ranks 11th in the NCAA Southeast Region.

Coming off their record breaking weekend at Western Carolina, The 4x400 relay team of Anthony Mason, Isaac Teasley, Jalen Anderson and Bryson Riddick took fourth place with a time of 3:13.85.

Other notable finishes include Madison Hannah, who threw 40.05-meters in the women's discus, making her third throw over 40-meters in her last four meets. Kenneth Wilkes also had good showings in both the men's high jump (1.91-meters) and triple jump (13.65-meters), nearly jumping a new personal record in the high jump.

Asheville will return to the track at the Big South Outdoor Championships in Rock Hill, S.C. on May 10-12.
