Bulldogs finish first day of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA - The UNC Asheville track and field teams finished out the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday (April 21). The Bulldogs had multiple new personal records set, while for the second time in two weeks, Solomon McDonald broke the school record in the men's shot put.
Coming off a record-breaking performance last weekend at the Catamount Classic, Solomon McDonald broke the men's shot put record once again. His throw of 18.46-meters earned him the first place prize and bested his previous throw by 17 centimeters. With his new personal best, McDonald is entering rarified air as a Bulldog field athlete, now having placed first in the shot put at eight of eleven meets this school year and now ranks third in the NCAA Southeast Region for shot put.
For the second weekend in a row, Zac Weas ran a new personal record in the 110-meter hurdles, improving his time to 14.14 seconds. Weas has improved his personal best in this event in three out of four meets he has competed in this season, shaving his 14.39 time to start the season by .25 seconds.Â
Brianna Moore earned her fourth straight podium spot in the women's javelin with a new personal record of 43.80-meters to take third place. Moore also finished in ninth place in the long jump with a new personal record of 5.63-meters.
Claudia Prieto continued her winning ways, maintaining her podium streak by taking third in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.01-meters.Â
Other notable performances include Jackson Core, who participated in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a personal best time of 9:34.32. Jada Brigman also took a new personal best in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.44-meters.
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow when play resumes at the Georgia Tech Invitational at noon. Live Results can be found HERE.
