BLACKSBURG, Va. -
The UNC Asheville track and field team finished up the Big South Indoor Championships on Saturday. Overall the Bulldogs performed well, collectively finishing fourth on the men's side with 98 points and fifth on the women's side with 38 points. Asheville finished with 11 podium finishes, four of those being first place winners, and three program records shattered.

Along with standout performances, Claudia Prieto and Nathaniel Edwards took spots on the Big South All-Academic teams. In typical fashion, Prieto also won her third consecutive Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year award, which she won last indoor and outdoor track season, on top of placing first in the long jump and placing second in the triple jump (12.31m) this weekend.

On the final day of championship weekend, Asheville took home a first place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, with Zac Weas running a personal best 7.95 time, marking the second best time in this event in school history. Weas was followed by Nick Roberts, who took third place in the event and ran a personal best 8.26 time.

Kenneth Wilkes also had stellar performances in the high jump and the triple jump, scoring a 1.96 meter personal best in the high jump to take fourth place, and taking a second place podium spot with a 14.56 meter triple jump.

Distance runner Adam Hessler continued his dominant weekend, taking second place in the 3000 meter run and landing a new personal best time of 8:22.15. This time also breaks a school record, giving Hessler two broken records in two days of competition. Alex Haines took third place in the 800 meter dash, with a time of 1:54.86, narrowly missing a top-five performance of his own.

Lastly, the men's 4x400 relay record was broken by the team of Anthony Mason, Isaac Teasley, Bryson Riddick, and Jalen Anderson, who finished second place with a time of 3:15.27.

The Bulldog track and field team will be in action this spring when they begin the outdoor season in Charlotte at the 49er Classic.
