Last Time Out – The Bulldogs downed Charleston Southern by a score of 80-62 on Wednesday night at Kimmel Arena. The victory not only clinched an undefeated home record for Asheville in 2022-23 (13-0) but it also improved their overall record to 23-7 and 15-2 in Big South play.
Tajion Near the Top of the Scoring List – Tajion Jones had a performance to remember in his final game at Kimmel Arena on Wednesday. Jones scored a career-high 30 points and matched the single game program record with eight 3-pointers made. With his scoring outburst on Wednesday, Jones became the third Bulldog to score 1,900 points. Jones, who has scored 1,913 points as a Bulldog, needs to score just seven more points to become the program's all-time leading scorer regardless of era.
A season to Re-Pember – Drew Pember has had not only one of the best seasons by an Asheville player but one of the best by a Big South player in 2022-23. Pember is on pace to become the first player in Conference history to lead the League in scoring average, rebounds, and blocks for a single season. Pember also leads all Division I men's basketball players in the state of North Carolina in scoring. Additionally, Pember needs just 37 more points to break the program's single season scoring record of 648 points held by Andrew Rowsey (2013-14).
Chance for Program Best – Asheville has a chance to match or establish a new program benchmark in a few different categories on Saturday. With a win against Longwood, the Bulldogs will tie the program record for wins in a season (24) and become one of four Big South teams to win 16 or more conference games in a season. Additionally, if the Bulldogs come out on top, it'll be the team's 22nd win against a Division I opponent this season, which would be a new program-high for the Bulldogs.
A Look Ahead to Next Week – Regardless of what happens on Saturday, Asheville will be the No. 1 seed in next week's Big South Basketball Tournament in Charlotte. The Bulldogs will begin play next Friday at Noon to begin the Tournament's Quarterfinal round. To purchase tickets for next week's conference tournament, click HERE.
About Longwood – Like Asheville, Longwood has already clinched its seed for next week's Big South Tournament. The Lancers, who will be the No. 2 seed, enter Saturday's game with Asheville with a record of 20-10 overall and 12-5 in Big South action.
Series Rewind vs. Longwood – The Bulldogs are 14-5 all-time against Longwood. Asheville defeated the Lancers by a score of 54-46 at Kimmel Arena in mid-January. Asheville will aim to improve its 7-2 record in Farmville on Saturday.
