DAY ONE RESULTS (PDF)
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team turned in a strong first day at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships on Wednesday. Asheville saw a pair of school records fall and a pair of swimmers achieved NCAA 'B' Cuts on Wednesday.

At the conclusion of competition on Wednesday, the Bulldogs sit in fourth place in the team standings with 183 points trailing only Queens (315), Liberty (256), and James Madison (255).

"The team was so hyped up tonight which really helped us swim fast through our first finals session," said senior Delaney Carlton afterward. "We swim fast when we have fun; the dancing and waving Kevin around and cheering each other on as we kill it is super motivating. It's only day one, this team is just getting started!!"

Morning Session Recap – The Bulldogs did not wait long to see some stellar performances on Wednesday. Overall, there were six lifetime-best and seven season-best outings from Asheville student-athletes.

A trio of records fell during the morning session. First, Carlton achieved a NCAA 'B' Cut for the second time of her career with a time of 22.38 in the 50-yard freestyle. Carlton's time was the second-fastest in the prelims and broke the school record for the event.

The other two records that fell in the prelim session came from freshmen. Anna Marcotti continued her stellar freshman campaign by breaking the program's freshman 500-yard freestyle record with a time of 4:55.42. On the boards, Kindal Culpepper established a new top mark for Bulldogs in platform diving with a point total of 179.65.

Evening Session Recap – Asheville saw five more lifetime best performances during the evening session. Marcotti narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the 500-yard freestyle by placing fourth clocking in at 4:54.97, bettering her own freshman record she established earlier on Wednesday.

Abby Parks joined Carlton in attaining a NCAA 'B' Cut with a time of 22.68 in the evening session, which ranked fourth in the field.

The biggest highlight, however, came from Carlton. Carlton shaved over three tenths of a second off her morning time down to 22.07. With that performance, Carlton finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and in doing so became the second conference champion in program history (Caitlin Hefner – 1650 Free in 2022).

The Bulldogs will continue to compete at the CCSA Championships on Thursday. Like on Wednesday, the action will be split into two sessions (10 a.m. – prelims & 6 p.m. – finals). Both sessions can be seen on ESPN+.
