Bulldogs Post 6-1 Win at South Carolina State on Sunday

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer posted a 6-1 win at South Carolina State on Sunday (Oct. 8).
Asheville got the scoring started in the 16th minute when Kaiya Boyd scored her third of the season, deflecting a cross into the box off an assist from Taylor Gardner. South Carolina State responded soon after, when Kayla Moses fed Karla Gordon who scored her first the season to tie the match 1-1. Asheville would keep the pressure on in the first half, earning a corner kick to be taken by Barrett Eidson. Eidson's corner found the feet of Anna Doane, who fed a pass to Daysha Chaney who stashed home her third of the season. The Bulldogs would add some insurance in the final minute of the first half, when Karlee Benz crossed a ball through the box that was put home by Nao Kawasaki for her fourth of the season. Asheville would take a 3-1 lead to the break.
Gardner would get in on the scoring action in the 78th minute off Lillian Morrison's first assist of the season. Anna Doane would get in on the scoring in the 85th minute, unleashing a rocket to the top right corner off a free kick for her second of the season. Kylie Kroese would net her first goal of her Asheville career in the 88th minute to bring the match to its final score.
Asheville out-shot South Carolina State 34-5 in the match, while out-earning them in corner kicks 12-0. Gardner tied her career-high with a match-high seven shots, while Chaney set a new career-high with six. Addie Cooper posted four shots in the match, while Julia Hüsch, Boyd and Kawasaki each had three shots. Eidson, Doane and Benz each registered two shots in the match, while Ashley Macfarlane and Kroese each had one shot in the contest. Lexi Dooley (2-0-1) posted three saves in the win between the pipes.
