Volleyball Falls to High Point in Three Sets

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team traveled to play High Point University Saturday afternoon, and fell to the Panthers in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-14).Â
ON THE COURT
In the opening frame, neither team was able to jump ahead with the dominant hand as the set was all tied up at six. The Panthers, however, caught momentum following a kill and went on a 12-2 run to jump ahead 18-8. Asheville did not lay down, as they answered with a 9-1 run and cut High Point's lead down to three (22-19). The Panthers called a timeout and out of the break, High Point scored the final three points of the set to get the victory.Â
The Bulldogs opened the second set on a 3-0 run, but the Panthers quickly responded, tying the score. Asheville retook the lead with a kill from Baylor Herlehy, and the Bulldogs held its lead until the Panthers tied the score at 14. A kill from Matilde Teixeira gave Asheville the lead at the media timeout, before High Point tied the score once again. Asheville would regain its lead two more times following High Point tying the set up. Tied at 18, the Panthers would go on to take the lead and never look back.Â
In the final frame, High Point scored the open set point and never looked back as they went on to take a three-set sweep.
IN THE BOXÂ
Teixeira led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and a .364 hitting percentage and Kat Davis anchored the offense with 15 assists.Â

With Saturday's loss, Asheville falls to 6-12 (0-5 Big South).Â
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 13, as they travel to Gardner-Webb.Â
