Volleyball falls in three sets at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team traveled to Radford Friday evening for a Big South Conference matchup and fell to the Highlanders in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-19).
ON THE COURT
It was back and forth through the opening points of the first set before the Highlanders went on a 4-0 run to jump ahead 13-9. The Bulldogs cut the score back within two before Radford jumped back ahead by five and never looked back.
The Highlanders jumped ahead 3-0 to open the second set and held its lead until a kill from Albertine van der Goot sparked a run for Asheville to tie the set at 12. The Highlanders jumped back in the lead following a three-point run, but the Bulldogs quickly responded with a three-point run of their own to tie the score at 17. A kill from van der Goot helped Asheville take its first lead of the set (18-17), but Radford responded with a 6-1 run and secured the set victory.
The Bulldogs looked to avoid getting swept as they quickly jumped ahead 4-1. The Highlanders evened the score at five, with six ties to follow. Both teams went back and forth in the lead, before Radford closed out the set on a 10-3 run to earn the sweep.
IN THE BOX
Kylie Cackovic led Asheville with nine kills, followed by Baylor Herlehy with six, who also recorded a game-high five blocks. Ona Elkins led the team with 13 assists, and Kat Davis followed with 10.
UP NEXT
With Friday night's loss, the Bulldogs fall to 6-11 (0-4 Big South).
Asheville will look to bounce back tomorrow as they head to High Point for a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.
